Celebrating Our 50th Season

As the Artistic Director during our 50th anniversary year, I’m proud to mark this incredible milestone with a repertoire that is both marvelous and celebratory.

For five decades, we’ve been a cultural ambassador – one that has inspired an audience that appreciates the great beauty of ballet, and the sense of community they experience every time they take their seat. Together, we’ve created a sense of momentum that begins on stage and stays with us long after.

Continuing to tell the unique story of Alberta and celebrate who we are, our latest season showcases our talent, our energy, and our depth in all its flying colours. From the inventiveness of Shadowland by Pilobolus and dark charm of Dracula to the magic of Alice in Wonderland and soulful Canadiana of Gordon Lightfoot, our 50th year is one that belongs to all of us.

With the achievement of this remarkable milestone, now is also the perfect time to salute all the artists, patrons, donors, sponsors, funders, volunteers and employees who support us, shape us and believe in the power of art. It is your love of ballet that allows us to soar. Five decades ago Ruth Carse and Muriel Taylor’s started Alberta Ballet. Knowing where we’ve been and where we’re going, I’m confident Ruth and Muriel would be proud of the growth of their dance company, which is now one of the finest in Canada.

We have embraced all aesthetics, styles and stories, performing everything from the greatest ballets of the 19th and 20th century to the most innovative choreographic voices of today. We will continue to embrace this magnificent art form in all its dimensions as we strive to position Alberta at the forefront of the Canadian arts scene.

I invite you all to be part of this celebratory season as we transform, connect and revitalize the Alberta experience on our 50th anniversary.
